As a business, I have been functioning for some 25 years.

Traditional Lead work

`Quality installations' rather than competitive cheap work is the motto.

Small and large jobs undertaken.

Had 15 staff when carrying out work for Tesco in Launceston.

Now I have just one apprentice (my Daughter Miranda).

I teach Leadwork and General Plumbing part time at Cornwall College.

Lead work has been carried out at various Manor Houses and Churches in the area. Had a place in Gardeners Live competition at the N.E.C., followed by the second year with a second place for Ornamental Leadwork. Basic chimney flashings to complicated details to Sand Castings are undertaken. Bathrooms are my next preferred choice of work. We can install basic budget bathrooms to exotic ones with sophisticated tiles. Special care is always taken with all the work we carry out. Respect for customers homes and there belongings has lead to recommendations, particularly by professional people. However, everyone is treated the same. Miranda had had enough as a Legal secretary after getting qualifications and moving to London. Plumbing, she felt was the way forward. She has always got involved with projects in the workshop since she was little. She acquired a good grasp of practical work and since starting her apprenticeship, is one of the top students at college. Her office skills are of a great benefit to me and our customers too! Her ideas for bathroom design appeal to customers and I think she will expand this side of the business. Cornwall College started a plumbing course last September, I was asked to lecture there as I have taught at two other colleges in the past. This course is for City & Guilds and N.V.Q. in Plumbing. Lead work is part of the `plumber's skills' requirements. I enjoy passing on my years of knowledge to these students, but it also makes me keep up to date with new information that has to be passed on to them.

I first started work in the construction & general building in 1975 working on a sub contractor basis with a carpenter named Malcolm Thompson. In those days we covered pretty much all of the south west from Dorset to Penzance. In 1979 I started my own business having 3 employees working for me still working throughout the south west. By the mid eighties I had ceased to do so much traveling and concentrated on local general building which my son Simon joined in 1987 and is still with me today. One of the biggest building projects was to undertake the building of 5 new holiday cottages complete refurbishment of the old coach house, new restaurant and kitchen at Juliots Well Holiday Park. I now have 5 employees working for me at present 1 general builder 2 carpenters 1 plumber and 1 laborer.
